Yadanabon Zoological Gardens is one of Myanmar’s oldest and most significant public institutions. It serves as a center for animal care, conservation, education, and recreation, while preserving natural heritage for future generations.
A legacy built by public support and national pride.
The establishment of Yadanabon Zoological Garden commenced on 18 February 1989 and was successfully completed within 41 days, ending on 31 March 1989. The zoo was officially opened to the public on 8 April 1989.
Yadanabon Zoological Garden is located in Aungmyaythazan Township, Mandalay. It is bordered by Mandalay Hill Sports Ground to the north, 12th Street, the moat road, and the old palace city area to the south, the entrance road to Mandalay Hill to the east, and the Mandalay–Madaya–Mogok Road to the west. The zoo covers an area of 53.21 acres.
Myanmar is a country blessed with beautiful natural landscapes, including rivers, forests, mountains, and fertile lands. To provide opportunities for people to enjoy nature and observe Myanmar’s wildlife, birds, and ornamental gardens, Yangon Zoological Garden had long served as a recreational and educational destination. Yadanabon Zoological Garden was established to offer similar opportunities for people in Upper Myanmar, enabling them to relax, enjoy nature, and learn about various species of wild animals.
